CARNIVAL AUCTION

The Carnival Auction is one of our biggest fund raisers. The Auction requires a chair person and at least 2 assistants to contact local business for donations for the Carnival Auction. The items gathered are presented during the carnival usually as “tin can” items. We have a variety of items for adults as well as items for the kids. The positions require making phone calls and visiting business to help generate donations. There is also a need for record keeping of the items and the donators as we like to acknowledge those that gave. The night before the carnival and the afternoon before require time to set up the items in the Media Center. During the carnival, the Auction committee will need to help with managing the auction and facilitating the drawings for winners. It is a lot of work but the rewards for the kids are priceless.

CARNIVAL GAMES/ADMISSIONS

The Carnival games are scheduled and coordinated by the Carnival Games chair person. This requires making arrangements for games for the classrooms and deciding on prizes. Obtaining a cotton candy machine and supplies, Kona Ice or other treats to supplement the kitchen. Most of the work is required on the day of the Carnival. The chair will need to have at least 4 adult volunteers to assist. This involves making sure the games are set up and having at least 2 adults at all times supervising the prize room. During the carnival, the chair and her assistants make sure the entrances are manned and ticket/wrist band sales are being handled. If volunteers become scarce to run games, it is important to have a plan on which rooms get shut down as necessary.

CARNIVAL VOLUNTEERS

The Carnival Volunteer chair person has one of the most critical roles. Approximately 2 months prior to the carnival, volunteers need to be identified. The volunteer chair works with the auction, games and kitchen chairs to identify how many volunteers are need to cover the carnival. Requests are then sent out to Schalm parents about the need. Last year we began using a web based volunteer tool to supplement and ease the sign up and tracking. On the night of the Carnival, the volunteer chair coordinates the volunteers, sending them to their designated rooms.
